This post is all about the connecting artwork and other hidden gems in the 30th Anniversary set.
30th Celebration is an ode to Pokémon fans, new and old —and some incredible artwork that deserves a second look.
Beyond the chase cards, the set has clever connecting artwork, Pokémon cameos, matching pairs, and story-rich illustrations that make flipping through the set almost as much fun as collecting it.
Below, we're taking a closer look at the 30th Celebration connecting artwork and some of the hidden Pokémon you might have missed.
The Legendary Birds
Moltres, Articuno and Zapdos illustration rares form one beautiful continuous piece, illustrated by mashu.
Each bird also carries a "Flapping" Ability that only activates when its two counterparts are also in play, turning the artwork's connection into actual gameplay.
It's little details like that make these worth chasing.
This is Mega Darkrai’s TCG Debut
Mega Darkrai first appeared in the Mega Dimension DLC for Pokémon Legends: Z-A on December 10, 2025—but it didn’t make its Pokémon TCG debut until Pitch Black released on July 17, 2026.
That makes Pitch Black the very first set to feature Mega Darkrai ex, with both a Special Illustration Rare and Mega Hyper Rare to collect. And I’m sure we’ll see much more of this Mega in sets to come.
Hidden Pokémon Cameos in Pitch Black
Can you spot them all? One of the joys of Pokémon cards is discovering the little surprises tucked into the background—and usually we get spoiled with so many cameos, but sadly Pitch Black only has a few. Some are easy to spot; others are the kind of cameos you might completely miss on your first look through the set.
